Donkey Festival

This event is unique in South of France, a special day to discover all kinds of donkeys in a pretty small town between Nice and Digne on the Napoleon Road. This is about two hours from Nice in a small town built on the rocks. Situated on the pre-Alpes, you can still discover truly sympathetic and kind people far from the French Riviera atmosphere. All the habitants of Escragnolles and the communes around are participating to this event.
The donkey owners are coming from all other Provence to present their best animals and participate to the election of the donkey of the year. Some are selling typical products as sausages, cheese, honey and bread and all kind of Provencal stuff for the kitchen and bathroom, some others are getting dressed up in a typical Provencal costumes red and white to present traditional dances, those dancers are really cute, shy and amateur you can just be amused by them with their black sunglasses attitude from another time. The kids can have a donkey trip for 20 minutes or getting on the fair tornado manege. As in all country side fest, we are waiting for the mayor, for his speech, before the donkey firework which will end this wonderful day. This event is every year in June.
