The hill of Cimiez in Nice is well known for its old monastery founded in the 9th century and the actual Franciscan monastery is dated 1546. It was in the past times one of the main religious places of the whole area and the cemetery of this place is a very important one with some very old graves. You’ll find in this cemetery most of all important families of Nice of the past centuries and some well known painters like Henri Matisse or Raoul Dufy who spent their last years in Nice. If you like angels and graveyard statues, come have a look at this place and you’ll be surely fascinated by what you see. To go there, it’s very easy: from the centre of the town go up north on the main hill of the city, the hill of Cimiez. It’s indicated by street signs, and everyone in Nice knows where it is. Once at the gardens of Cimiez you’ll see the monastery and its cemetery just behind. You can’t miss it :)
