More often than not do we see mugshots and, due to the absence of information accompanying them, are left wondering just what these people had done to land them behind bars. But through Small Town Noir, a blog run by Diarmid Mogg, we finally get to know the stories behind these men and women – well, at least those arrested in New Castle, Pennsylvania between the 1930s and the 1970s.

Mogg said that these mugshots “were rescued from the trash when the town’s police department threw them out,” while the stories accompanying them “comes mostly from old copies of the local paper, the New Castle News.” Instead of just itemizing information such as each individual’s crime and the date it was committed, Mogg weaves fascinating stories that would certainly enlighten each reader.

Due to space constraints (most of the stories behind every mugshot are almost biographical, each worthy of articles on their own), only the mugshots would be featured in this article. To read the full stories, visit Small Town Noir here.
