Then and Now: Famous Works of Art and Film Recreated in Photographs

These recreations of famous artworks surely know how to put a modern twist on the classics.

Caravaggio, Manet, Edward Hopper, and Frida Kahlo have something in common aside from the fact that they are considered great masters of the arts. Their works have also been recreated in this series of photographs from various artists.

Art website Booooooom and Adobe teamed up to cook up a challenge for students in the UK with their ‘Remake’ photo project. The mechanics were simple, just pick a famous work of art (it can be from a film or a photograph) and recreate it using photography without editing the final image.

Entries poured in and the resulting art fest is nonetheless interesting. Various works of art served as inspiration and the recreated images were not limited to photos that featured only models or actors. Some of the submissions used other props to imitate the iconic works of art. The setting may be different but the general direction of the artworks remained the same.

You can see all the submissions here.

I amazed by the photos that are really close to the original, however it is those that re-interpret the original that I find most impressive.
