Album Covers Designed by Andy Warhol

Really, was there anything that Andy Warhol did not do?

Andy Warhol is indeed an artist in every sense of the word. Known mostly for his works in pop art, printmaking, and film, Warhol had also done work in drawing and illustration, photography, digital art, and, as it turned out, designing album covers! Of course, you probably have already seen his work for The Velvet Underground & Nico’s eponymous album starring his iconic banana illustration. However, it wasn’t a one-off thing; apparently, Warhol had designed about 60 album covers in the course of 40 years beginning in the late ’40s! His clientèle included John Lennon, Paul Anka, The Smiths, The Rolling Stones, Thelonious Monk, and Kenny Burrell!

Have a look at a sampling of Warhol’s album cover designs below!

  2. Hmm...fitting that Warhol should have been the designer of that Smiths album cover: that guy in the picture on the cover is Joe Dallesandro, a still photo from one of the Warhol films he was in, which were actually directed by Paul Morrissey, what a coincidence, huh? - but there's no relation to the Morrissey from the Smiths.
