Fresh from My Darkroom: Yoga for Africa!

Last Sunday, a great yoga event was held in Cernobbio, a small tourist town near the city of Como. Local association Breathe Como made a performance of power yoga exercises to raise funds for Africa. I developed the film a few days ago, and today I'll show the photos to you! I call this "Fresh From My Darkroom" because I developed the black and white films by myself! Take a look!

The second Sunday of June was a very hot day, the first true day of the incoming summer. In this occasion, the small town of Cernobbio hosted a great session of power yoga in the morning courtesy of the members and teachers of Breathe Como, which organizes many charitable events to help Africa. For example, they help African boys and girls become yoga instructors, leading them away them from hunger, poverty, and mercenary war activities.

The session began at 10 a.m. The teachers explained the project and welcomed all participants.

The exercises began with the classic child position (see photo above) followed by intense warm-up.

Some exercises were done with the help of a partner. So much effort and sweat but also a lot of fun marked the event, in an atmosphere of serene friendship and brotherhood!

Hold your feet up, touch my hand, and smile!

Equilibrium, inner peace, and a wonderful smile can all be seen on this girl standing on one leg!

Here is a young teacher who led the second part of exercises, and did a wonderful arch!

The classic lotus position is very relaxing. The participants took a little pause in the very hot morning!

Now, after another session, is a time to relax.

But the exercises do not end here! Dear girls, it’s time to pedal; imagine you are on a bike! This is an exercise that removes fatigue.

A little pause… Everyone wants to take a nap.

And again another asana, of course with wonderful smiles!

This is the final relaxing position. The sun in now very hot, and after 90 minutes it’s time to stop!

The teachers help the participants relax!
