Take a Peek Into the Large Format Photography Process

Ever been curious about the fascinating world of large format photography? A short film you'll find after the jump offers a glimpse into the amazing analogue processes that go into taking a single high quality photograph

Large format photography is something that many find both interesting and intimidating, and while many have started learning photography the analogue way, fewer people make large format photos these days. It was the format of choice of legendary photographer Ansel Adams, and many portraitists and landscape photographers still swear by the quality of the photos taken in this format. Still, in a world where everything is done the quick and high-tech way, it’s also seen as a tedious and complicated way to take photographs.

Even so, it’s a given that with the renewed interest in analogue photography, there will be a handful of people who will find this format interesting. If you’re among those who want to know about the equipment and processes involved in taking large format photographs, a short film by Ledicia will surely delight you. Photographer Luis Placido shows us what goes on into a making a 20 × 25 (or 8″ × 10″) print, as well as the fascinating gear used to take these beautiful and highly detailed photographs.

Ledicia also said that the short film is the first in a series of videos they thought of doing to make sure that traditional photography is not forgotten or abandoned. We’re already excited about the next!
