My First Lomo Affair: Kekskonstrukt and her Fisheye One

Back in 2010, while looking for a small camera to take with her on a short trip to London, Helene chanced upon the wonderful Fisheye One. Despite having zero knowledge of shooting about shooting with fisheyes, she gave in to her instincts and bought the camera. Let's all find out how Helene's First Lomo Affair with the Fisheye One got her deeper into analogue photography!

Helene aka kekskonstrukt

Name: Helene
LomoHome: kekskonstrukt
Location: Linz, Austria

Please tell us more about yourself.

I’m a graphic designer and work as an art director at a magazine. Therefore, I spend most of my workdays in front of the computer. So for a change, I do analogue stuff during my free time. Mainly, it is analogue photography but I also like to draw and paint pictures.

When was your first try of a Lomography camera or film? What product was it?

It all started in 2010 with a Fisheye One Camera. I looked around the internet for a small camera that I can take with me on a short trip to London. Somehow I stumbled upon the Fisheye One and bought it for myself.

Was the Lomography product yours or maybe you borrowed it from a relative or friend?

It is mine. I really wanted to check it out, so I just purchased it. It’s a rather cheap camera anyway.

How was the experience upon using it? Any funny or strange occurrences?

Shooting the first roll was quite exciting because I had absolutely no idea how the pictures would turn out. I never took pictures with a fisheye camera or a fisheye lens before. And the viewfinder of the Fisheye One is no help either because it only gives you an approximate idea of what you are shooting. Also, I was very used to digital photography at that time so it was really strange for me to not immediately see my pictures.

Have you used that Lomography product again? Why or why not?

Oh yes, I used it again and will continue to do so. The camera still works like new and I always get nice results, whether I use color negative, redscale, black and white or slide film.

Can you share us your favorite or most memorable shot from that First Lomo Affair of yours? Why this one?

This is my favorite shot:

It’s from my first roll of film with the Fisheye One camera and it just turned out so perfect! It made me instantly fall in love with this camera and with film photography. It is still one of my favorite fisheye pictures.

How did the Fisheye One affect your love for Lomography/film photography?

It definitely awoke my interest for Lomography and film photography in general. Shortly afterwards, I got myself a Diana F+ camera and joined the Lomography community.

Lomography’s Fisheye One is the world’s first compact 35mm fisheye camera. With a sweeping 170-degree view and slamming colours and contrasts, the Fisheye One will certainly give you great circular shots every time. See it with the rest of our Fisheye cameras here!
