Snippets and Vignettes: Subliminal GIFs by Zack Dougherty

Have you ever had that feeling when you’re in museums that statues sometimes move when you’re not looking? Zack Dougherty’s amazing animated GIFs makes us feel just that, except we realize that the statues are indeed moving.

It may sound or feel creepy at first but just hear us out for a minute here. Those Greek sculptures are undeniably masterpieces in their own right but Zack Dougherty or more popularly known on Tumblr as hateplow makes them all the more amazing.

Not only does Dougherty make these amazing works of art move but he does so in style. His GIFs offer a strong sense of design when it comes to aesthetics and the animation need not be over the top with design. Dougherty’s animated GIFs range from sculptures ridden with geometrical figures to subtly moving museum pieces. He even throws in a floating moon in there just for good measure.

Rough and smooth at the same time, hateplow’s GIFs hit the right notes with hints of surrealism and mathematics that can give other artists a run for their money. Who would have imagined that those two things could blend seamlessly together?

You can see more of his work on his Tumblr.
