If there was a month synonymous to parties and celebrations, then it would be March! This month is home to some of the grandest festivals in the world and we should look no further than the outrageous celebration that is Mardi Gras!

Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday” and for those of you who are new to the whole idea of this world-renowned celebration, it’s the time to bring out your party hats and tricked-out costumes and beads while you head out to the streets.

Fat Tuesday basically means that you should sneak in the most festivities – partying, eating and drinking – before the Lenten Season begins. Mardi Gras is almost synonymous to the fun-loving people of New Orleans but it is also celebrated in other parts of the world in observance of Lent.

Different cultures, influences and ethnic groups meet at this crossroad meant for nothing but good times. Our very own community members have something to show us as they capture some of the most outrageous and wildest scenes of Mardi Gras past. And if you’re all geared up for the carnival, parades and all-around merrymaking; don’t forget to capture all the fun with your Lomography camera!

Mardi Gras takes place today, March 4, 2014 at New Orleans, Louisiana. We’re just counting down the hours till the great parades and plentiful parties!
