The Park: Late-night secret trysts as captured by Kohei Yoshiyuki

For some, love may be overrated and affection, a commodity. While the month of February may be an opportunity to declare your undying devotion and explore the limits of searing passion, it might be the same for everyone, and it might have not been always the case. There are those who veil their impulses in secrecy, and wait for the right opportunity to let their desires unfold.

The Park is a series of black-and-white photos taken by Japanese photographer Kohei Yoshiyuki in the 1970s. It is voyeurism at its boldest; with a 35mm camera, infrared film, and flash, Yoshikuyi photographed people who converged in some of Tokyo’s parks at night for sexual encounters, much to the delight of onlookers who hid amid shrubs to see — or sometimes take part in — the action.

To tickle your senses and possibly your voyeuristic tendencies, here are some photos from the said collection.

The images are currently at the Yossi Milo Gallery in New York.
