Object of My Affection: Indonesia's Persib Bandung Football Club

As people all over the world would say, football or soccer is not just a sport, it's everything.

For the people of Jawa Barat (West Java), Persib Bandung is not just a football club, it’s a Sundanese icon.

I remember when my dad brought me to the Siliwangi Stadium to watch Persib Bandung play in 1989. It was the first time I went there. Even though I didn’t know what football was at that time because I was only a kindergarten student, that happy moment always comes to my mind every time I come across Siliwangi Stadium.

But since the first time I watched Persib in 1989, I haven’t seen my favorite football club again in Siliwangi Stadium because from 1990 until 1996, my family lived in Ujung Pandang (now Makassar), Sulawesi Selatan (South Celebes). And from 1999 until 2002, my family moved again to Semarang, Jawa Tengah (Central Java). I’m back in my hometown of Bandung since 2002, but didn’t immediately watch Persib play at the stadium because of too many reasons.

But when Persib launched the line-up at Pendopo Kota Bandung on November 11th, 2012, it was that moment when I decided to watch them again at the stadium. It was so hard to capture the players because hundreds of fans compete to take photos of them with their cell phone cameras. Lucky for me, I was able to photograph Firman Utina, playmaker for Persib and the Indonesia national football team, with my Fisheye No. 2 camera.

I also snapped a photo of M. Ridwan, Persib and Indonesia national football team right wing.

Thanks to vespa66, I was able to get a ticket for the big friendly match between Persib Bandung and DC United, USA.

The atmosphere during the Persib Bandung match at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium was so epic, I was speechless.

Can you feel it?

So happy. This is the happy face after the match.

Me and vespa66 wanted to take a photo with the Persib players but the security guard at the entrance of the player room was so strict and prohibited us from entering the room. We were able to enter only the playing field and take a selfie inside of the goal line,

And do this “awkward sit up pose.”
