My Analogue Resolution for 2014: Be Awake

This post is already a little late since we’re already being peppered with love notes this February. But as they say “Better late than never” right?

2013 was a challenging year for me. I’ve made a LOT of mistakes and I’m quite proud to say that I am learning by those mistakes each day since 2014 entered. But if you ask me what my biggest mistake was, it’s that I wasn’t aware of the things that were happening around me enough.

What I realized is that I have to be awake. And I think it’s not only in real life that I should do it but in my analogue life, too. We’re just so caught up in the things that we do that we sometimes forget the real things that matter.

I am going to appreciate the people around me.

I’ve already started on this one just last January. I’ve reconnected with old friends, rekindled relationships with family, warmed up to my partner who I hope will still accept that engagement ring that has long been overdue. I’m slowly building my analogue memories of these people and it feels good to tell you guys that it has been a nice experience talking to them. You know, REALLY talking to them and understanding what’s happening with them instead of just clicking “send” on Facebook.

I am going to take it slow.

Life’s a big blur when you’re just living just to get through with the day. This year I want to change that. I want to see the sunrise again. I want to have laughs with people I’ve long missed and not worry about texts or calls interrupting us. I’ll stay slow and compose memories using my film cameras because it’s those moments that we should really live. I can’t always live on thoughts of yesterday that’s why slowing down to appreciate what’s happening now is the way to go.

I’ll be more mindful of the things I do.

In connection to taking it slow, I’m really going to take my sweet time in doing things. I’m going to think first before I speak because I tend to act out quickly. I’m going to make sure that each shot counts. Shooting on film has taught me that. I have to take things into consideration before I click that shutter.

I’m going to be awake.

I’ll try to learn more in every waking hour this 2014. I hope to build that habit and I’d like my cameras to be my seeing eye for that. I want to make memories that I can hold in prints. I want to continue with the projects that I’ve forgotten. I’m going to be awake most of the time, literally and figuratively. And that’s the reason I’m writing this. I’m being awake now and I like to share the thoughts I have with you.

Let’s just slow down, live today and exchange memories on film. That’s what we’re here for, right?

Sounds like a very reasonable approach to me, cheeo. I wish you the best of luck with it!
