Have a look at these amazing hand-painted photographs by Shae DeTar!

In the early days of photography, people would usually apply paint by hand directly on their black and white photos for both practical and aesthetic purposes. However, color photography had become the norm, and so the number of photographers who continue to practice this technique has dwindled considerably. One of them is Los Angeles-based model-turned-photographer and artist Shae DeTar.

Apart from these, DeTar has also shot for ad campaigns of various clothing brands like Cosabella Lingerie and Aritzia, as well as other commissioned work like the one for Ballet Beautiful. More recently, in December just last year to be exact, her painted billboard for Aritzia installed in Soho, New York City was unveiled.

DeTar’s impressive work are definitely something we don’t see everyday anymore. They’re unique, beautiful, and at times even whimsical.

I like these. All my hand coloring has been to make things look realistic. This inspires me to try other colors for the 'Lomo Look'.
