Snippets and Vignettes: Romain Laurent’s Looping Portraits

GIFs are a great way to go when you’re looking to express your point on the Internet nowadays but how does it fare when it comes to letting out some artistic steam? Just look at photographer Romain Laurent’s hilariously creative animated portraits and see what we mean.

Mixing portraiture and the ever so quirky animated GIFs, photographer Romain Laurent creates looping animated sequences that range from funny to downright cool. Laurent mixes his photographic sense and creative juices to pass time from commercial photographic work. Aside from the promise of looping images, these animated portraits show how creative artists can get even during their down time.

Laurent employs the help of willing friends and photographs them with different animation themes in mind. His own “self lamp portrait” is a hilariously fresh take on taking self-portraits. None of these animated GIFs have that stiff, artsy feel to them. They’re just fun pieces to look at but are still creatively done that you’d sometimes ask yourself “Now, why didn’t I think of that?”

Romain Laurent is a photographer based in New York. He has worked with top global brands and makes these quirky animated self-portraits as a side project every week. You can view his blog here and his portfolio here.
