My Analogue Bucketlist

At 25 years old, there remains a number of things that I want to accomplish. Here are some of them.

Travel the world, starting with key cities in Asia, and try out street photography in these places.

Just last Wednesday, my best friend rang me at around lunch time and gleefully told me that she finally booked us a flight to Singapore in July. It’s not exactly a spur-of-the-moment decision, but we haven’t really planned anything yet. In any case, I would also like to try out street photography there in addition to a similar project that I’d like to start featuring our nation’s capital Manila. Singapore’s such a beautifully diverse place, and I hope to capture all of that on film this time around.

Aside from this, I’m also hoping that our (that is, me and a couple of my closest college friends) plan of flying to Seoul, South Korea in the last quarter of this year would push through. There are some more travel plans my friends and I have already laid out, albeit almost all of them pretty vague at the moment and the most ambitious of which would have to be a backpack trip around Europe, but I’m hoping that we get to fulfill them by the time we’re 30 at the earliest!

Write a series of short stories or flash fiction pieces prompted by photographs.

One of the things that I’m most passionate about is writing. Last year, I was able to write a flash fiction piece based on a random photo I stumbled upon on Flickr. Since then I’ve always been on the lookout for possible prompts. Just recently, I discovered that Lomography magazine has a series called LomoLit! That definitely fueled my drive to carry on, and like any writer, I’d love to be able to share my stories with people who might be interested in reading them. However, I’m still working on plucking up the courage to have my work displayed for everyone to see – but that’s another story altogether.

Finish reading all the books that I’ve bought both deliberately and on impulse and are now stacked inside a box inside my room.

I’ve always loved books and reading. It’s one of the main reasons why I’ve chosen to become a writer, aside from being interested in the media. When I was younger I would finish every book I’ve gotten as soon as I get them, but now I find it a bit difficult to finish reading books at the same pace. As a result, the number of books I have yet to read are currently a little more than those that I’ve already finished (blame impulse buying and book stores going on major sales)! With work and social life occupying most of my time at the moment, I’m still hoping that I’d be able to finish at least one book a month. Maybe I should start with Haruki Murakami’s 1Q84?

Write a screenplay.

Ever since I was properly introduced to films I’ve always wanted to create my own. It’s a good thing I have friends who share the same interests as mine so I think this could be possible in the next few years or so. I don’t know yet just what genre I’d be doing, although I could tell you now that it won’t be one of those cheesy, romantic types seeing that I’m not a huge fan of those (nothing against them, I promise). Probably a thriller or a whodunit, with some sort of twist in the end, then film it using the LomoKino?

@in-the-sky I will! It's at the top of my to-read list (Haruki Murakami's my favorite author!), and I've been hearing only good things about it from friends who have already finished reading it. I actually got the book as soon as it was released, but since then I've been stuck at chapter two! :)
