My 2013 in Analogue: Exploring Body Parts

If I have to summarize in this article what characterized my 2013 in Lomography compared to the previous year, I can tell you that I have explored one thing: the parts of the human body, especially the feet, in order to test the communicative power of the Lomo cameras!

I love to take photos in the park, especially during my free time, public events, and of joyful people. This year, I made some experiences. I wanted to explore an usually hidden body part, that I like to photograph: feet. They are an intimate, childlike body part that inspire a feeling of tenderness in me. So, I began this experience by photographing my legs lying in my bed, for the “Capture the Moment” competition:

After this series, I went shooting in the public park of my city. There, I saw a girl was reading with her legs lifted up. I tested the communicative power of my refurbished Lomo LC-A and asked her to hold her legs up because I wanted to take some photos of her feet, for a series on body parts. She was curious about my camera, and after giving me a smile she allowed me to take these photos.

After some weeks, I made another test with my Sprocket Rocket camera and asked a Polish girl who was taking a sunbath in the park to help me make a pun on Sprocket" and “Feet”. With it, I came up with a series called “SprockFEET Rocket.” Again, the power of the Lomo camera lit up a smile on her face, and she approved this joking game! So, I obtained a colorful series to add to my albums!

I never worked with a model and I never asked to the people to pose before these series! These were my first experiences with some voluntary models! Now, I searched for a couple, and after some days I found two gentle and friendly boys and girl who allowed me to take other photos, this time with my old Fed 2 camera. Again, a vintage film camera have had the power to create curiosity!

Here some photos of the girl’s soles alone:

I used these photos to create some diptychs with a football tournament, and the meaning of the series is: “During the summer season, do you prefer to play sport or to relax barefoot in the park in good company?”

The last series was taken as I played with my feet and a Colorsplash flash mounted on my LC-A Refurbished. Here’s the article (in Italian language), where you’d see photos taken when I made some mistakes wearing my socks!

I explored this subject and wrote another article dedicated to these awesome body parts (with photos of other lomographers), and I updated some old articles by writing new blog posts. Here’s an update for the previously mentioned article; this one, this and this one are updates to some articles that I posted in the past years.

In the next year, I’ll explore a more awesome, interesting, and expressive body part: HANDS! For now, HAPPY FEET and LOMO ON!
