A Bespectacled James Dean Pushes His Cousin Markie’s Soapbox Derby Car in the Snow

Looks like the little fellow’s having a grand time with his older cousin!

This photograph was taken in 1955 by former Magnum photographer Dennis Stock in Fairmount, Indiana, where Dean grew up in a farm with his aunt and uncle Ortense and Marcus Winslow. Stock was the same photographer who shot the enigmatic actor’s famous portrait at Times Square around the same time on commission for LIFE magazine, just months before Dean’s tragic death.
