Beautiful Animal Sculptures Assembled from Repurposed Objects by Edouard Martinet

While most of us won't think twice about consigning those broken, rusty, dilapidated stuff rotting away in our backyards or garages to junk yards, a French sculptor has been making mind-blowing sculptures using bits and pieces from these discarded items.

They may not look like it at first glance, but a closer look at the sculptures of Edouard Martinet will tell you that they were handcrafted using repurposed bits and pieces from stuff rescued from junk yards and garage sales.

The skilled sculptor transforms seemingly random pieces like radio antennae, hair pins, typewriter parts, bike chains, motorbike bodies, drawer knobs, headlights, and sauce spoons into insect/animal parts like eyes, wings, thorax, legs, and claws. Then, he proceeds to assembling everything not by soldering or welding the parts, but by screwing them all together.

Here’s a gallery of Martinet’s past and recent works:

It’s amazing not only how each sculpture is a testament of all the work, imagination, and ingenuity put into them, but also how each carefully selected component adds to the look of the whole piece.

Martinet will be showcasing his latest masterpieces in a show at Sladmore Contemporary in London from November 27, 2013 to January 31, 2014.
