Photography is creation. That’s what sums it up for photographer Ivan Pavlukhin as he documents the things and times in his life that inspire him. See more of his storytelling on film after the jump.
Picking up an old camera invokes many things for many people. For some, it’s the promise of being able to look into the world through an object once used by another person and capturing the moment and keeping the memory of interesting people, places and things. To others, it’s an emotional journey that embodies a state of mind and inner understanding of one’s self. For young photographer, Ivan Pavlukhin, he shares both sentiments when he picked up an old, maybe forgotten camera just over a year ago.
The most important ingredient in a photograph for me is its honesty, its essence, the reality beneath the obvious.
His photographs indeed tug at the heartstrings with powerful composition and imagery. His shots capture the moment well and his technique is something you’d expect of from a professional, a veteran even. Pavlukhin’s storytelling done through the lens of a camera is characterized by the fleeting moments that would have just passed by if not captured on film. He adds that “film draws him in…” True enough, his photographs say just that.
