Newcomer of the Week: Olivesan

Film photography gives her a smorgasbord of emotions that she can't help but cling into it; drawing her closer inch by inch, leaving her in awe that eventually translates into passion.

Then she discovered the Community that made these emotions bigger and indeed, better. A place to share Lomographs and be inspired -- why not join, right? We sure are happy that this lady from Vietnam came across this experience because aside from the impressive Lomographs that she shares, she's also here to tell us about her film story as she is this week's newcomer! Let's say welcome to Nguyễn!

Please tell us a little something about yourself.

I’m unpredictable; sometimes in a good mood, sometimes crazy.

How did you find the Community and who/what convinced you to join?

I knew about Lomography through Analogue House — a distributor of Lomo cameras in Vietnam. When I searched for the website, I found it impossible to leave. There are so many nice photos that astonished me. Gradually, I discovered more great articles and tips from the Creative Community. Now you could say I’m addicted to it.

As you have read the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography, what rule do you apply in your everyday life?

Rule # 10: Don’t worry about any rules. I’m not the kind of person who obeys the rules. It’s good that the number 10 rule exists to relax with.

In this digital age, why still film?

Films bring me more feelings that digital can’t do; excitement when looking through a tiny square (viewfinder) – no worrying about results while clicking the shutter button – but then thrill while curiosity waiting for the development – and finally a bit of disappointment, regret or even enormous happiness and surprise with the turn-out of the photos!

Moreover, I like the colors, the vignette, the light leaks, the grain and any other imperfect factors of film.

What are you looking forward to in our Community?

The endless passion for film. That’s what I also anticipate in myself.

Your favorite analogue camera as of the moment? Why?

My Vivitar Ultra Wide and Slim, my first film camera. I like to bring this light and lovely analogue friend everywhere I go. It’s very easy to shoot with and to look through the wide-angle viewfinder.

What is the Lomographic camera you’d want to have someday?

An LC-A+. I can’t remember the meaning of the “A+” but to me, “A” stands for Awesome. A few months ago, a kind friend of mine, hungle, lent me his LC-A+ for my trip to Hongkong. I had the opportunity to create my first double and multiple exposures. The results are more wonderful than I imagined! If I'll own it someday, I’d play with the Splitzer for sure.

Your favorite section or page in our Lomography site?

I like reading the Analogue Lifestyle and Lomo Amigo sections to get inspired by the stories as well as experiences of the LomoGurus and Amigos all over the world. Of course, their artworks can’t be missed.

Please hare your current favorite Lomograph. Why?

This is the hardest question ever because there are tons of beautiful photos from the Community that I like and admire. But if I have to choose one, I will pick this funny photo. I can’t help but laugh after reading the description.

From LomoHome flyaway It's a perfect sunny day on Cua Dai beach and I was feeling trigger happy. This shot was taken with an LC-A+ with Splitzer split top and bottom half. I had framed the shot in mind and specifically instructed my boyfriend to capture the top half with my upper body in it, and the bottom half with my lower body. I was thinking the slight misalignment in my upper & lower body could turn out interesting. As usual, he NEVER listens. To my horror, he had chopped off my body completely! Well, I do not have the figure of a model, but little did I expect that he'd create a monster out of me!!! I posted this as a Halloween picture and my friends love it! On any other occasion, it's a disaster.

It’s true that with Lomography, you not just get surprised but also have lots of fun!
