A Day in the Life of a Student: mini high school reunion in my hometown

A reunion, even though held only in small-scale, will bring back good memories and refresh us - just like a vacation or trip to paradise.

This back-to-school theme is quite very hard for me to do because I spent my elementary and junior high school years in Ujung Pandang, Indonesia; and then, my senior high year in Semarang, which is very far from my hometown of Bandung. However, I was able to figure out how to write about this theme in a mini high school reunion perspective.

It all started when my senior high school best friend, Dhani, went to spend his honeymoon with his new wife, Ipet, in Bandung.

We went to the Tangkuban Parahu crater, the most famous tourist destination in town. It is located in the city of Bandung, at the suburb of Cikole, Lembang

After, we went back to town to have fun at Trans Studio, which is kind of like a tiny Disneyworld in Bandung.

A couple of years later, my other senior high school best friend, Qomar, came to Bandung. He came to attend his brother’s wedding with a Bandungnese girl. I insisted that we meet up because it’s been a long long time since the last time I saw him at his wedding. He also recently got back for good from Amsterdam, Netherlands after spending 10 years studying and working for IT there.

This year, my classmate Fajar came to Bandung for his work duty. When I asked him to meet up, I found out that he has totally changed. He is now working as an executive, while I’m a loser and unemployed, one who doesn’t have money. But the change didn’t make him forget our friendship.

Fajar looked for watches at Paris Van Java, one of the shopping center in Bandung, but didn’t find one.

The last senior high school best friend who came back to my hometown was Hilman. He is a bus lover now, so different from our high school selves who were Blink 182, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Pearl Jam fans. We used to be so into music. Now, Hilman loves buses and I love analogue photography.

After finding the house that produces miniature buses and buying one, he asked me to accompany him to the best spot in Bandung before going back to Semarang.

After taking pictures at a Bandung landmark called Gedung Sate, I took him to Braga, the most famous street in town. Even though a lot of building there are in a bad condition, people still come to this street.
