Doubles With You: Suizidekid and Grazie's Vienna Meets So.Cal Volume 3

13

A few weeks ago, we re-introduced you to a Lomography feature that brings out the most spontaneous creative juices from the members of our Community!

Doubles With You encouraged Lomographers to be loud and proud of their stunning double (or even triple!) projects that were made possible in our Community. And now that we’re sure to experience twice the analogue fun, we’re bringing you a doubles project from suizidekid and grazie entitled Vienna Meets So.Cal Volume 3!

Coming from Austria, Vienna, Axel Gülcher or suizidekid used an old Konica AF3 which was given to him by his grandmother. During that time, it was his only film camera with an ISO setting. As for Graziella Ines or grazie from Bellflower, California, she entrusted the project to her Pentax ME Super. A roll of Fuji Sensia 200 was the star of this doubles project!

We better dig deeper on these LomoGurus and their lovely effort. Read on our Q&A below!

What did you take pictures of and where?

Axel Gülcher (AG): I shot some touristic places in Vienna for her because she has never been in Europe before and have never seen the old buildings.

Graziella Ines (GI): I remember shooting this the Friday after Thanksgiving in 2011. I went on a short day trip to the Cabrillo National Monument in San Diego. I went down to the tide pools, took photos of the rocks, the rock formations, the ocean, and the waves.

Did you and your film swap partner talk about a theme for this film swap? Why or why not?

AG: No, it had no concept at all. We thought it would be the best if everyone had full freedom.

GI: With this film swap project and all the film swap projects we have done and about to do, we never really plan. I think it is more than enough that he shoots Vienna and I shoot Southern California. Of course, I think I subconsciously shoot stuff that I haven’t shot for him before. We just freely shoot and thankfully, we have produced satisfying results.

What do you think about this film swap’s results?

AG: I really like the result of this film swap. It is a nice crossover of the beach and old Viennese architecture.

GI: I love it!

Please share with us your favourite photo from the film swap.

AG: It is the perfect connection between both worlds.

Note: Grazie also chose Axel’s favourite! :)

GI: The first one looks like this great Vienna architecture that is being washed away. The shots are so well placed, too. The second photo because it features Axel’s brother and my friend, Lukas. And the result is just wonderful I think.

Any funny or strange occurrences during this film swap?

AG: Sometimes I am a bit too much of a perfectionist, so I was not satisfied with the scanning of her lab. Fortunately she was not too happy about it, too. So she sent the roll all the way from LA to Vienna so I could re-scan it myself.

GI: I can’t really remember any specific funny or strange occurrence during this swap. Just that we communicated a lot, laughed a lot, and it was just fun during the entire process.

Would you like to do more film swaps soon? Anyone in mind? Or a theme maybe?

AG: Yes sure, always! Though I am super slow with the film swaps :p So I owe some people double rolls. But whoever is interested in doubles with me, should just ask.

GI: I still have some to do (with Axel and with other friends) but I am always up for it as long as I am not rushed to finish it.

This doubles project was a great blend of history, nature, and random visuals translated beautifully into analogue. A very interesting swap, indeed! Thanks Axel and Grazie! Until our next Doubles With You!

Proud of a film swap you’ve done? How about we feature it? Participants are always welcome so do drop me a line at mayee.gonzales@lomography.com for more Doubles With You! :)
