He was struck by the film photography bolt in an instant that it made him a camera collector in a young age. And now that he's a part of our Community, he sure is in a lot of Lomographic fun!
Coming from Texas in the USA, we came across his LomoHome and was impressed by the beauty and depth of his film photographs. There sure is skill in there! Here he is, our newcomer of the week, jongonzalez!
Name: Jonathan Gonzalez
Lomography Home: jongonzalez
Location: Austin, Texas
Current film cameras: Canon AE-1, Diana Mini, Lomo Fisheye 2, and about 30 others. I collect vintage film cameras.
Please tell us a little something about yourself.
My name is Jonathan and I grew up in Austin, Texas my whole life. Film cameras have been my obsession for the past two and a half years and I currently have over 35 film cameras.
How did you find the Community and who/what convinced you to join?
My sophomore Spanish teacher introduced me to his Diana F+ at the end of class one day. I immediately asked where he had purchased it and wrote down “Lomography” in my Spanish notebook. That night I visited the website and bought my very own Diana Mini. And from there I was hooked!
As you have read the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography, what rule do you apply in your everyday life?
#1 Take your camera everywhere you go. I always bring a camera with me wherever I go. My Canon AE-1 is always around my neck and my Diana Mini is always in my backpack.
In this digital age, why still film?
Film is more exciting! You’ll never know what exactly you are going to get until the film is developed. I love playing around in the darkroom and experimenting with different techniques. Film is more rewarding.
Any song or movie you live by? Please share.
Well, I live by this quote “Life does NOT have to be perfect to be wonderful.”
What are you looking forward to in our Community?
Inspiration. I am constantly inspired by the talent and creativity that every Lomographer has.
Your favorite analogue camera as of the moment? Why?
My Canon AE-1. That camera will always be my most prized possession and also because it produces stunning pictures.
What is the Lomographic camera you’d want to have someday?
The Lomo Lubitel 166+ because “it offers unlimited creative possibilities deemed to be an analogue masterpiece” and it’s really beautiful.
Your favorite section or page in our Lomography site?
The Tipster section under the Magazine. The Tipsters are so interesting and fun to experiment with. I have learned so many fun little tips and tricks.
Share your current favorite Lomograph (could be yours or a friend’s) and explain why it is your favorite.
I took this self-portrait for a double exposure project in my photo class. I love this picture because I discovered how to take double exposures on my Canon AE-1. The photo also symbolizes boredom and time passing.
