Madonna Louise Ciccone With A Boombox And Some Lower East Side Kids

Before she dropped her two other names and became a one-name mega entity.

In 1982, before Madonna became a household name and before her hits became household/disco/wedding/funeral tuens, the up-and-coming pop star released her first album. Photographer Richard Corman went to visit her apartment in the Lower East side of New York and took the above photos.

Corman recounted the memorable experience to Elle Magazine: “She served me an espresso with a Bazooka bubble gum, I will never forget it. The kids from the projects would all come up and sing and dance along with her. I documented all of this. I was a voyeur.”
