His excitement is contagious and his passion is burning! This guy from Cambridge definitely made our day with this interview. Such a fun newcomer!
Coming from Cambridge, we stumbled upon Oliver’s LomoHome and was impressed with his Lomographs! It’s great to know that he does really hard work on them, too. Now that’s what you call dedication. Ladies and gentlemen, let us welcome LomoHome theowliver as this week’s newcomer!
Name: Oliver Eagle-Wilsher
Lomography Home: theowliver
Location: Cambridge, United Kingdom
Current film cameras: Rolleiflex 3.5/7.5, Olympus OM-10 & -1n, Polaroid 600, Ilford Sporti, Olympus Pen-EE & a Kodak disposable (reused)
Please tell us a little something about yourself.
I build guitars, cycle on the roads, take too many photos. I like to document life but not get the camera in the way of my life.
How did you find the Community and who/what convinced you to join?
My housemate raziel_khan introduced me and I took an instant like to the Community and site.
As you have read the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography, what rule do you apply in your everyday life?
I apply rule #1! When I leave the house, I always have at least one camera [with] me. Though if I’m out and cycling, that camera is most likely my phone, which is kind of a shame. I’ll get some disposable bodies for the future!
In this digital age, why still film?
Because I’m able to process black and white myself, which brings the cost down (and will soon start on colour developing.) It also makes me think about shots before I take them knowing that if I shoot digital I could become too trigger happy and start shooting mundane things. Film swapping, playing with the chemistry, and the mystery and excitement of developing appeal to me much more than taking a shot, looking at it and taking another.
Any song or movie you live by? Please share.
Frank Turner – St. Christopher is Coming Home
I connect too much with this song, it’s not something I want to live by but I always end up slipping into it. Whenever I listen to it my skin prickles and I can see the faces of the people that I want closer in my life. “Yeah whatever else maybe I shall not forget my friends.”
What are you looking forward to in our Community?
The time that the LomoChrome Purple comes on sale and it coincides with a paycheck!
Your favorite analogue camera as of the moment? Why?
Without a doubt the Rolleiflex 3.5/7.5 which I borrowed from a friend. It’s mid 30’s (I think) and has been the most challenging camera to work with. But the results are amazing, it has made me think about composition and light levels. It’s currently loaded with Lomography CN 400!
What is the Lomographic camera you’d want to have someday?
As soon as I have the available funds I’m going to purchase a Konstruktor. Knowing more about the inner workings of an SLR is fascinating, especially putting one together!
Your favorite section or page in our Lomography site?
The LomoLab! There’s always some excitement when uploading new photos & publishing them!
Share your current favorite Lomograph. Why this one?
The colours of this shot, the memories of that day, and the lens flare put this up as my number one! Taken by my good friend Lucan (raziel_khan) on a sunny day out on Brick Lane. The stark difference of the colour compared to that of reality brings out more details of the photograph that were if not so highly contrasted (and green) would be missed.
