PYHOF: MTV, Now on Air

In celebration of the day when "video killed the radio star", this week's Put Your Headphones on Fridays playlist offers the first 10 songs whose music videos were broadcast in the first telecast of MTV. Get ready for some major throwback with these hits!

On August 1, 1981, a new era in music and pop culture was born as the New York-based cable channel MTV (Music Television) first held its broadcast. The first of its kind, MTV is a 24-hour channel that combined the concept of radio and television, and focused on promoting all things related to music.

So, in line with this momentous event, here’s the a little bit of throwback (or trivia, depending on your year of birth) — the first 10 songs played on its first broadcast! Enjoy!
