An All-Girl Jazz Band Serenading A Whole Row of Cows

Look at those cows listening to the sweet, sweet moo-sic!

Image via Vintage Photo

“August 1930: The Ingenues, an all-girls band and vaudeville act, serenading the cows in the University of Wisconsin-Madison Dairy Barn in a scientific test of whether the cows would give more milk to the soothing strains of music.” – Original caption

Now if we think about it, perhaps the scientists behind this test were really on to something? I wonder what kind of results they ultimately ended up with…

What do you guys think?

I had some cousins, who lived by a dairy, long ago, and the dairy played big band music and cool jazz for the cows at milking time, but NEVER Lawrence Welk!! My cousin Butchie said that the cows, as faithful workers and a source of wealth, deserved better.
