Newcomer of the Week: Deafening

The "Christmas morning" feeling -- isn't that something special? Something we feel maybe just once a year. The feeling of warmth and happiness that is celebrated all over the world.

That feeling is how she describes film photography. Isn’t it amazing that an occurence so sweet can be translated into photographs you have shot? Truly something amazing!

Let us welcome this week’s newcomer, deafening!

Please tell us a little something about yourself.

Just a short, quiet vegetarian, with her nose stuck in a book and her eye behind the viewfinder enjoying life one day at a time.

How did you find the Community and who/what convinced you to join?

I found the world of Lomography through casual photography browsing. There was no convincing to join; it just felt right.

As you have read the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography, what rule do you apply in your everyday life?

#6. Don’t think.

In this digital age, why still film?

I love both, honestly, but film feels concrete. Real. Tangible. There are techniques you can accomplish and play with through film that only Photoshop allows you in digital. And in a world full of instant gratification, it’s nice to have that “christmas morning” feeling all year round on the day your film is ready at your local photo lab.

Any song or movie you live by? Please share.

The soundtrack to my life is pretty instrumental, like Maserati’s “Intervention.” And I don’t think it’s possible to live by just one movie or song. but if it comes to lyrics, Langhorne Slim’s “Be Set Free” is a good one everybody should pay attention to.

What are you looking forward to in our Community?

Summer photos. Sand, beach, ocean, and sun. Blues and greens and tans.

Your favorite analogue camera as of the moment?

Why? The Diana F+ was my first and may be my favorite. Some of my best (and worst) photos have come from her.

What is the Lomographic camera you’d want to have someday?

The Lomography LC-A+. Some of the most amazing photos I’ve ever seen have been taken with this camera, and I would love to have my own amazing LC-A+ photos one day.

Your favorite section or page in our Lomography site?

The Photos section. I like being able to browse through pictures taken with certain cameras or films.

Share your current favorite Lomograph (could be yours or a friend’s) and explain why it is your favorite.

This is currently one of my favorite Lomographs by ohlordy. I have a serious thing for storms, planes, oceans, and panoramas, and this photo sums a lot of what I love into one photograph.
