Snippets and Vignettes: Ray Manzarek Groovin’

Sometimes, one snapshot is enough to capture a memory. And today's Snippets and Vignettes installment is in honor of Ray Manzarek, founding member and keyboardist of the legendary band The Doors, and his contribution to the world of music.

Music fans are mourning as news of The Doors’ founding member and keyboardist Ray Manzarek’s passing yesterday at the age of 74 spread throughout the world. He died in Rosenheim, Germany after a long battle with bile duct cancer.

Manzarek and singer Jim Morrison are the founders of the iconic 1960s rock band The Doors, which along with bandmates John Densmore and Robby Krieger went to create nine studio albums and a large following, despite Morrison’s untimely death in 1971.

Manzarek was noted for his looks — blond and bespectacled, the yang to Morrison’s dark-haired and broody yin — and his ability to complemented Morrison’s poetic lyrics.

Rest in peace, Ray. The world will miss you.
