A Tribute to The Doors

Lomography offers a tribute to one of the most phenomenal bands in the the history of rock 'n roll.

Ray Manzarek, co-founder and keyboardist of legendary American rock group The Doors passed away on Monday, after losing his battle with cancer.

Dying at the age of 74, Manzarek outlived his eclectic, shamanistic band mate, The Doors vocalist Jim Morrison, who died at 27 way back in 1971. Morrison is admittedly still is the most recognized member of the band, but Manzarek’s influence on rock music cannot be forgotten, both as a co-founder of The Doors and his contributions to the industry thereafter. Manzarek continued his musical persuasions after The Doors disbanded, playing in several other bands and as a record producer for other artists.

Despite a short-lived career, The Doors was one of the most worshiped, wildly successful, and highly controversial bands of their era. Having spawned chart-topping hits such as “Break on Through (to the Other Side)” “People are Strange” and their phenomenal single “Light My Fire,” they have managed to outsmart oblivion and remain significant to this day.

In tribute to these rock legends, we’ve collated a few of their photos, taken during their heyday.

The Doors is definitely one of the industry’s greatest breakthroughs. Their music lives on, and their legacy leaves an indelible mark on rock history.
