Last week I, Sandravo, lent my LC-Wide to my 8 year old nephew Tuur and turned him into a “Lomographer for a Day”. The camera was loaded with a Fuji Sensia 200 (expired) to document his brother's birthday party. Look what he’s done!
Some time ago my nephews saw me walking around with my new “very old” Lubitel 2. Being 8 and 10 years old they had never seen such a camera and they were immediately drawn to it. Especially the youngest one, Tuur, was really interested and kept asking if he could make a picture with it. After setting shutter time and aperture I handed him the camera. Being from a digital generation the first thing he did was look for a small screen at the back… which wasn’t anywhere to be found! It was fun seeing him check out the camera and contemplate on the fact that there was something called film inside.
Next time we all got together I decided to take my LC-Wide and ask my nephew to do the shooting for me. After giving him a few simple instruction on zone-focusing and how to use the flash (Fritz the Blitz) he went on his way. The camera was set to half frame, so he would have 72 frames to shoot. I intentionally didn’t insert the mask, so the entire film is a single, very long panorama. A couple of hours later he brought me back the camera, a bit disappointed that the film was full. Here’s what he thinks of his experience as lomographer for a day.
1. How long since you had shot an analogue film roll?
About two months ago I already tried 1 photo, but this was the first time ever shooting an entire roll of film.
2 How would you describe the experience in five words?
Fun, cool, special, awesome, loved it!
3 Which picture, out of all you took, you like the best, and why?
The one I made together with my brother (I made the right half and my brother shot the left half), in which we both appear. I like this one the most because we both look very happy and because we are demonstrating our own sports: I play volley ball and he plays basket ball.
4 If you could teleport to any part of the world with this camera and lots of film, which would it be and why?
I would like to take this camera to the jungle. Why?! Because there are lots of palm trees and awesome animals such as jaguars!
5 Which type of camera would you like to get for your next birthday, digital or analogue?
ANALOGUE! I liked it that I got to go really close to shoot peoples faces! And I really like the results! Also, it was very exciting waiting for the photos to come back from the lab. And turning the wheel to go to the next frame is really funny!
