Newcomer of the Week: Jutei

At first it was a missed connection but the second definitely was destiny! Know who is this week's featured newcomer and read more about his Lomography story!

Coming from Finland, this man fell in love with the 60s beauty that is the Diana Mini — not letting any chance pass by without it. Together with that was his discovery of the Lomography Community which he is currently fond of. Meet this week’s newcomer, jutei!

Name: Jussi Lehkonen
Lomography Home: http://www.lomography.com/homes/jutei
Location: Helsinki, Finland
Current film cameras: Diana Mini, Lomography ActionSampler, Canon AF35M II, EXA 1a, FED 50

How did you find out about the Community and who/what convinced you to join?

I found the Lomography Community a few years ago, when I was searching something online. But then it didn’t draw my attention yet. At the end of 2012, I decided to get back to film photography and again found myself going through the internet, trying to decide what camera to get. The Diana Mini got my attention and at the same time the Community, too.

Any inspirations when it comes to taking film photographs?

I usually go out and take pictures when I’m bored or feeling blue. Public events also make me grab my camera. I get inspired when I look at all the cool photos at Lomography.com — the database of great pictures is endless!

Any song or movie you live by?

I can’t really say that I live by any song or movie, but I listen to music a lot. I’m constantly trying to find good new bands (I’m pretty picky when it comes to music.). A couple of my new favorites are the Divine Fits and Skip the Use.

As you have read the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography, what rule do you apply in your everyday life?

It has to be rule #1. If you don’t follow the first one, it’s really hard to follow the others.

In this digital age, why still film?

I got really bored with digital. You can take hundreds of photos and hope there’s a couple of good ones. With film everything is much more exciting! You’ll never know what you get, especially if you shoot with different cameras and films all the time. I often don’t remember all the shots on the film and it makes developing and scanning very exciting.

What are you looking forward to in our Community?

For me it’s important that someone sees my photos and it’s also fun to see others’ photos, too. We are lucky that we are living in the era of the World Wide Web and sharing photos is so easy. Lomography is also a great place to find out new things in film photography. I hope there will be bunch of new cameras and films coming on.

Your favorite analogue camera as of the moment? Why?

Diana Mini. I love the simplicity of that thing and the good looks of course. It’s small enough to carry around and one of the rare 135mm film cameras which can do square format.

What is the Lomographic camera you’d want to have someday?

First I thought that my next one will be a Horizon Kompakt and then I thought it’s definitely a Sprocket Rocket, but again I changed my mind. At this moment I’m pretty sure that my next will be an LC-Wide. Something wide or panoramic that’s for sure!

Your favorite section or page in our Lomography site?

I really enjoy reading Tipsters and Reviews as I’m eager to learn more all the time. I’m surprised that there’s no discussion forum on this site. That would probably also be one of my favorite places, but without, it’s the two!

Share your current favorite Lomograph (could be yours or a friend’s) and explain why it is your favorite.

This is a hard one, but my choice is this one:

It looks like an earthquake at first, but when you look at it longer, it gives you a 3D feel. Black legs, red shoes, and white laces create strong contrast against an almost grey background… And contrast is always a good thing!
