World's Smallest Man Dances With His Pet Cat

Before Guinness became the deciding body for world records, Henry Behrens was once considered the smallest man at 30 inches high. Here, he is seen dancing with his feline friend who is nearly as tall as he!

“Oh, I love seeing teachers outside of school. It’s like seeing a dog walk on its hind legs,” said a character in Mean Girls. Well, how about seeing a cat dance on its hind legs with its really tiny owner?

26th October 1956: Henry Behrens, the smallest man in the world, dances with his pet cat in the doorway of his Worthing home. Measuring only 30 inches high, Mr. Behrens has made a living by travelling the world with Burton Lester’s midget troupe. (LIFE)

Above are more photos of a day in the life of a little person, as shot by Harry Kerr for LIFE, which reminds us of Ansel Adams’ inclination towards photographing strange or unusual people.

To end, here’s another quote from dwarf character Tyrion on Game of Thrones: “Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor, and it can never be used to hurt you.”
