Rare Color Photographs of Early 1900 Paris

The following pictures are pretty rare color photographs from Paris, captured early 1900. At that time, the Lumière technique was chosen to capture these scenes. Great are the motives, also the quality of the pictures!

Some of the images look like photographs and other such modern paintings. But, these photos are color photos, taken in Paris at the beginning of the 20th century. The condition of the photos is quite amazing when you consider how old the pictures are. Often, there are only black/white photos from this period, and often in bad quality!

The color photos were taken with the auto chrome Lumière technology. This technology was patented in 1903 by the famous French Auguste and Louis Lumière. Created by the Lumière brothers, it was a simplified and commercially viable process of color photography that made the brothers famous. They were seen as the first film producers in history.

So, here are the beautiful color photos! The City of Love: the streets, the architecture, the people, interiors and big events — all in color!

Photos and information from Paris1904 and curiouseggs.com.

Wonderful photos! I'm surprised these photos haven't faded. My Dad's Dufay Color slides are pretty much faded away. Nice to see these. Thanks.
