Perfect Combination: Superheadz Wide and Slim and Lomography Redscale XR

Finding that perfect camera and film combination can be hard, but sometimes you just stumble upon it without thinking. This is what happened to me with this particular combination and I haven't looked back since.

I will admit before I start that I have a massive soft spot for both this film and camera. The Lomography Redscale XR film is always fun, as the results can be so varied and my Superheadz Wide and Slim camera is effortless, with exciting and dynamic results.

The first time that I used this camera/film combination was on a holiday to Minehead. It wasn’t a particularly sunny weekend, I hadn’t planned to use them together, I just happened to have them both and I didn’t have high hopes for the results when I sent the film off to be developed. However, I was totally stunned by the results! They were soft with delicate blue tones that offset the almost golden tones of the redscale effect, and I totally adored them.

The worry, of course after taking so many exciting photos, is that the entire first roll was a bit of a fluke incident — so I put another roll of the the Lomography Redscale XR film through this camera and again I was absolutely delighted with the results. The tones were light with lovely variations from bronze to gold and the green and blue tones were subtle providing a delightful contrast that completely balanced the photos.

I will admit though that my favourite thing about this camera and film combination, is the results that come from the elusive Vivitar Ghost a phenomenon that carried from the Vivitar Ultra Wide & Slim to the Superheadz clones… they are just so stunning and organic, with gorgeous tones of colour sweeping across the photo.

Separately, these two items are wonderful, but together, they create something truly magical!

The Lomography Redscale XR 50-200 35mm gives you full control over your redscale images. With its extended ISO range, you can pick an effect that you want and set the ISO accordingly. Your images will exude a lovely retro feel. See our selection of Lomography films here.
