The Hypnotic and Haunting World of Bill Morrison

New York-based filmmaker Bill Morrison has been making films for the past twenty years or so, and with just one glance at his body of work, we ask ourselves why we haven’t we discovered him any sooner.

Bill Morrison is most-known for his work using archived film footage from the bygone eras – usually found at a state of deterioration or some other – and tying them with the musical masterpieces of great contemporary composers such as John Adams, Gavin Bryars, Dave Douglas, Bill Frisell, Michael Gordon, Henryk Gorecki, Vijay Iyer, David Lang, Harry Partch, Steve Reich, and Julia Wolfe.

Below is his 2004 short film entitled, Light is Calling, while further down is an excerpt from his 2002 feature length tour de force, Decasia.

You can watch more of his work on Vimeo, and learn more about him on his website.
