Chinese New Year in Valletta, Malta

The Chinese Culture Centre in Malta organized a cultural morning full of traditional activities to celebrate the Year of the Snake.

The China Cultural Centre in Malta was the first of its kind in Europe. Opened in 2003 and located round the corner from the office of Malta’s Prime Minister, the center is well known for organizing very interesting activities to promote Chinese Culture. Malta is home to many Chinese nationals many of whom are here to learn English, attend university or because of business links. Malta and China have a long positive history of business partnerships. One of their traditions is a small event in Valletta, Malta’s capital city where Chinese performers and musicians perform for the general public as part of the Chinese New Year celebrations. This year, they presented musicians, acrobats, dancers and a magician. All in traditional Chinese style. I love the bright colors, the music, and acrobats spinning in mid-air.

We are lucky to have nice weather at the moment, no rain but sunshine, making this event a very enjoyable and relaxing way to spend a Sunday morning.

Unfortunately, I arrived late; the place was already full although I managed to sneak up in a corner under the stage. But, this meant it was not possible to move around, so all my shots were taken from the same corner.
