Beautifully Nostalgic Photos of 1950s - 1960's Paris

Paris may be the famed city of romance and culture that it is today, but it probably wouldn't have earned that reputation if not for the stories, artworks, and photographs that immortalized its glorious past. Let's take a look at a slice of the French capital's olden days through beautiful photographs taken during the 1950's and 1960's.

There’s always something fascinating about Paris of the yester-decades. Not that the city is no longer as interesting at present, but I’m sure many will agree that the Paris of the past was something magical and magnetic, so much that it inspired (and has continued to inspire) many novels, paintings, photographs, movies, and more. While no time machine can take us back into the yester-decades, we can certainly have a glimpse of the French capital’s charming past through the nostalgic monochrome photos from the 1950’s and 1960’s.

In the gallery below, you will find lovers indulging in unhurried romantic moments, streets either hushed or bustling with activity, shops and marketplaces with eye-catching signage, elegant ladies sipping their coffee in style, Parisians seemingly lost in philosophical conversations, and many other interesting scenes.

Now, if those pictures don’t want to make you wish you can do a Gil Pender and be whisked away by a stylish vintage car into the enchanting Paris of the past, I’m not sure what else will.

Needless to say, Paris will always be interesting no matter what era it was photographed (take a look at Robert Doisneau’s photos from the 1940’s to 1950’s or Agnes Samour’s photos from more recent times), and a favorite city for many, don’t you think?
