My 2012 in Analogue: 5 of My Favourite Photos

This year, I have taken some photos that I am really rather proud of. In this article, I will talk about 5 photos that I have taken this year that I love, and why I love them.

This first photo is now the most popular photo in my Lomohome with over 200 likes. It is of my neighbour’s dog Aldo. Me and Aldo had a bit of a rough start when they first got him in 2011 as he wasn’t very well socialised and tried to bite me more than once. He has calmed down a lot now though and we play with him a fair bit. This was also one of my first forays into tungsten film and I was using a borrowed Canon EOS 3000N (a camera which I now also want for myself as I love the results so much). The neighbours also love this cute photo of their dog, who is basically like their baby!

Early in 2012 I got a refurbished Olympus Trip 35 and I fell in love with it from the very first roll. This photo was taken in the woods near my house on the first day I had the trip and I just love the whole roll. This then became my go-to camera of 2012 and I have taken it to lots of places since. Also, those woods are probably my favourite place in the world so I am glad my first roll (like many of my first rolls to be honest) was shot here.

I absolutely love this photo of Newton Faulkner using my LC-A+ to take a photo of me. This was shot at Coppafeel’s annual festival “Festifeel” which I was lucky enough to attend via a competition on Lomography. I really like Newton Faulkner’s folky sound and it was great to meet him in person and get him to pose with my camera like this. He is a really lovely guy and in fact the whole festival was fab. I would love to be able to attend again next year.

I like this photo because I have been working really hard on my double exposures throughout 2012 and trying to make them better and line them all up and be a bit more adventurous with them. I think I have improved a lot in this area since I started Lomography and I hope to continue to improve throughout 2013. I have even got Claire asking me for tips now so I must have gotten better. This shot was taken towards the end of this year and I really like the shapes in it and I think it is now one of my favorite doubles.

A big thing for me this year was my awesome holiday to Bulgaria (see location article for more photos of this trip). I love most of the photos that I took there as they remind me of some super fun times with friends and loved ones. This one however is a bit of a classic just because it sums up everything I love about Eastern Europe. The health and safety laws in the UK are so strict that a burnt out vehicle in the countryside would not last more than a day before it got moved. But I really think it adds a bit of character to a landscape and I wish I could shoot scenes like this far more often than I get the chance to.
