My 2012 in Analogue: Hits and Misses of My 2012 Lomo Bucket List

Let us see if I was able to accomplish my 2012 Lomo bucket list with this year-end analogue review.

It’s that time again to look back at the analogue year that was. In the beginning to year 2012, I wrote an article about my lomo bucket list for 2012; let’s see if I could cross them out by now.

Did I Buy the Fuji Natura Classica?

I always wanted to have a point and shoot, auto-exposure camera. It would be a great backup camera for my LC-A+. In my bucket list, I specified that I wanted the Fuji Natura Classica. I was supposed to use my Piggies for that, but it seems to be currently unavailable. Also, by the middle of the year, I started to yearn for a Horizon Perfekt. So, when Lomography offered a 30% discount on the Perfekt, I did not think twice and went straight to the online shop. My package is going to arrive this January, from my relative in Chicago.

As for having a point and shoot; well, I ended up buying three! I chanced upon an Olympus AF10 and a Ricoh Myport Zoom Mini in a thrift shop, and bought a used Olympus Infinity Stylus (a cult classic) from an online seller; all for the price that is a mere fraction of the Natura Classica’s. All three are currently on test rolls now. I must say tough that the initial test results of the Olympus AF10 are amazing! I will write a review of it soon.

Did I experiment with film?

I did! But just once, and it wasn’t even that good of a result. I am a bit discouraged now. I don’t know if I want it as much as I did when I wrote my bucket list. At least I tried.

Was I able to photograph my son everyday for an entire year?

Amazingly, I did as well! Although I will not claim that I did all the shooting. I usually come home at night when my son is already asleep. So I left a digital camera with our nanny and instructed her to take a photo of my son everyday. It is really amazing when I look through the photos and see his transformation from being an infant to a toddler. It’s just, wow!

Was I able to write 37 or more articles?

This year has been really busy for me. I had a lot of work, and I also went back to school to take my Ph.D. With that, I have less time for writing articles. But it’s not that bad at all. This is my 32nd article for this year, so I am just 5 articles shy away from my goal. I still have a few more days.

Did I discover the lomographer in me?

In fairness to myself, I think developing an identity would take some time. There is still no consistency in what I shoot, so I wouldn’t say that I actually discovered my lomographic identity this year. There were a few things though that I noticed. There times during this year that I shot a lot of redscales. Also, a lot of people seem to be enjoying my rescale-related articles. I keep on returning to shooting flowers in macro as well. So maybe that is a start.

It’s been a great analogue year for me, and I hope that the coming year will be no different. How’s yours?
