Newcomer of the Week: Totsytea

She didn't need much convincing when she thought of doing Lomography and joining our Community!

Because for her, the amazing Lomographs she saw in our warm and cozy website is just enough to join the analogue fun! Coming from what she says as windy and rainy Orkney, let us welcome this week’s Newcomer, totsytea!

Current film cameras: Supersampler and Diana+

How did you find out about the Community and who/what convinced you to join?

I stumbled across it when I was looking for tips for the Diana camera. I thought it looked great so didn’t need much convincing at all!

Is there anyone in the Lomographic Society you look up to? If yes, who is him/her and why?

There are so many people and I don’t know where to begin. I just love browsing through all the photos (usually searching by country) and I always find a new artist to appreciate. I think if I had to pick just one person it’d have to be kraut2. I love his albums of the people sleeping on a train and I totally admire his courage – he just snap their pics when they could wake up at any moment! Oh, and if you haven’t seen his pics of snails on a bald man’s head you have to check them out… Awesome!

As you have read the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography, what rule do you apply in your everyday life?

I try to take my camera everywhere I go.

In this digital age, why still film?

I love the suspense of having to wait until the film is developed before you see your pics. I also love the ‘surprise’ compositions you end up with thanks to the wonky viewfinder… You never know exactly what you’re going to end up with, you can only just about guess! Also the sound the Diana makes when you wind the film on is priceless.

What are you looking forward to in our Community?

Seeing even more new and exciting photos!

Your favorite analogue camera as of the moment? Why?

I have the SuperSampler and the Diana+ but they’re both so different you just can’t compare them! I love them both.

What is the Lomographic camera you’d want to have someday?

Maybe a Belair X 6-12…but I don’t think I’m quite ready for it yet.

Share your current favorite Lomograph (could be yours or a friend’s) and explain why it is your favorite.

This picture was taken on my first roll with the Diana. I think it was the first time I used the Splitzer and I just love the outcome. It was a freezing cold afternoon with a strong wind and lots of rain (welcome to Orkney!) and it was already starting to get dark. For me, this picture captures the wintery feel of the day and I like how calm the figure looks as she gazes out to sea, despite the weather.

Are you new in this Community? Wanna say hello? Then drop me a line at mayee.gonzales@lomography.com and you might just be our next Newcomer of the Week!
