LomoGuru of the Week: Desibel

Her relationship with Lomography is about to turn a decade older, what an awesome commitment and passion she has, right?

Though it was already late when she discoved our Community, she sure did not miss a lot for we are the ones who are happy she is here! With hundreds of friends in her LomoHome, I bet you’ve heard of this week’s LomoGuru, desibel! Say hello!

Share to us your most memorable experience in the Lomographic Community.

Not too long after I became a bit more active in the Community one of my photos was picked in the “Selected photos” section. My LomoHome was then immediately flooded with comments and likes and that’s when I first noticed how amazingly supportive this whole online Community is.

Have you actually met people in the Community that you now consider as close friends? If yes, name at least one of them.

Although I haven’t met any of my close friends through Lomography, I do have a few friends who are Lomographers. Not all of them are in the Community, but "vacuii"http://www.lomography.com/homes/vacuii and heimarlou are. :) My friend s0y and I became friends before we knew we both liked Lomography. Now we are working together at the Lomography Store in Amsterdam!

Do you think you’ll still be taking Lomographs in the next 5 years? Why?

For sure! Taking Lomographs for me isn’t only an activity, it’s also a mindset. I study philosophy and the philosophers I like best are the ones that turn your world upside-down and change your perspective on things. That’s what Lomography does to me, too. Walking around with a camera changes your perspective, you start noticing things, and seeing things differently. Then after having your film developed, you see them again in another perspective.

Also, I’ve grown so attached to my analogue cameras and the excitement of having a roll of film developed, I just can’t imagine my life without it. There are still so many cameras I want to try and I have so many things I want to experiment with.

What is your favorite Lomo camera and why? Do you have any memorable experiences while using this camera?

Oooooh can I only pick one? It changes every other week. I think my over-all favourite Lomography camera is the Sprocket Rocket. I just love sprockets, panoramic shots, and being able to take double exposures. I only recently got myself a LC-A+ and I must admit we’ve been inseparable from the day we met. So the LC-A+ may be my new best friend. It’s so small and I love taking double exposures with the Splitzer!

Please share your most favourite Lomographic photo that you took and explain why.

This to me is one of the many examples of the “Don’t think, just shoot” mentality. It creates the most amazing photos! This was one of the first photos I took with the Sprocket Rocket. I was so excited to see what the pictures would turn out like so I just clicked away without looking through the viewfinder. Never had I expected this photo to turn out this cool. When the photos returned from the lab and I saw this photo, I knew for sure this would be my new favourite camera.

Is there any advice you can give to new analogue shooters?

Don’t be afraid to experiment! Take double exposures, cross-process, make your own redscale, try different cameras. Don’t be discouraged when a photo or experiment don’t turn out the way you expected. And find yourself a Lomographic friend that can help and advise you. Us Lomographers are generally really friendly and helpful, and always happy to help keeping the analogue spirit alive :)

Do you think you’re qualified as a LomoGuru? Got something to share in our Community? Then drop me a line at mayee.gonzales@lomography.com qne become the next LomoGuru!
