Claire's Top 5 Lomo Milestones

Since I have been active in the Lomo community, I have achieved a number of things that I am really proud of.

1. Arranging a number of successful (and some unsuccessful) Lomo meet ups.

In 2011 I decided it would be nice for us Northerners to have a few meet ups in the absence of a Lomography Gallery Store in our neck of the woods. I have since organised 4 trips, with varying degrees of attendance and success but have made some really good “real life” friends along the way.

2. I have had a photo published in a proper book.

When I got an email saying that one of my photos had been selected for the Berlin City Guide, I was over the moon. It is on page 3 and it is a Diana Mini half frame photo of a Berlin city tour bus on one frame, and the other is a photo of my boyfriend using his Lubitel. I have a copy of the city guide and I love it! I am crossing EVERYTHING that I get a photo in the New York one.

3. I have done some promotional work for the new Lomography Gallery Store in Manchester.

In summer of 2012 I spent a number of weekends as part of the Manchester Street Team where we went out shooting photos of people using Lomography cameras and generally promoting the store. This was amazing fun and I met loads of lovely people (including the X-Factor’s Mischa B) out and about. Plus, getting paid in film can never be a bad thing in my opinion.

4. I have had my first photo get over 300 likes.

When I first joined the Lomography online community and I saw all these amazing shots, I never thought I would get a super popular photo on here (I quantified “super popular” in my head as having 300 likes or more). Then I took the above shot (largely by accident) in Barcelona last December and it currently has 415 “likes” and 53 comments, which is just amazing – thanks community!

5. I have learnt to develop my own black and white film.

Okay, so I have only tackled one roll so far, and this was under the strict guidance of louwest, fletchinski84 and a very thorough “Dark Room” app on my iPhone. But still I have managed this year to develop my first EVER roll of black and white film and I do plan to do this again in the near future.
