LomoGuru of the Week: Lazybuddha

He has been an analogue photographer for more than a decade now, but his participation in our Community made him find the analogue experience he was missing!

And now, being a member of our Community for more than a year, Daniel or lazybuddha indeed deserves a spot in our list of LomoGurus. We know you’ve heard of him so it’s time to welcome and read our interview with our Guru this week!

Share to us your most memorable experience in the Lomographic Community.

I discovered and fell in love with infrared photography through the Lomo society and when I posted my first Aerochrome album the response was incredible. Before that my most popular photo had about 60 likes and suddenly I got over two thousand notifications in two days! I couldn’t believe it and I couldn’t keep up with thanking everyone.

Have you actually met people in the Community that you now consider as close friends? If yes, name at least one of them.

I haven’t actually met any other Lomographers from the Community in person, although I’ve come close a couple of times, but I have one or two who I consider good friends nonetheless.

Do you think you’ll still be taking Lomographs in the next 5 years? Why?

Undoubtedly! I love photography and as long as they are making film I’ll be using it. I guess I’m just an old fashioned guy and can’t get past the idea that all this digital stuff doesn’t exist physically anywhere. It’s not tangible. A power failure, your computer breaking, an EMP pulse, any number of things could cause it all to end tomorrow and what have you got? Nothing. I love that feeling of collecting your negatives, of holding them up to the light, even scanning them. Besides, I’ve got too many cameras to stop now, if they stop making film I’ll have to start making my own.

What is your favorite Lomo camera and why? Do you have any memorable experiences while using this camera?

That is a difficult question. I have different favorites for different things, I love the clarity of my Lubitels but I also love the plastic lens and simplicity of my Holga. Whenever I travel I have to take at least four cameras, two medium format and two 35mm. One in each format for ‘photographs’ and one for ‘Lomographs.’ If I have to pick one it would be the original LC-A, I’ve got three now. It’s where it all started for me, it’s captured a lot of memories and it’s the one camera I take everywhere.

Please share your most favourite Lomographic photo that you took and explain why.

Another tough question but I think I’d have to say this one for several reasons;

Photo by lazybuddha

I love the colours and the balance between the two exposures but also I’d only been in the Community a couple of months. It was one of the first rolls through my Smena 8M and only my third or fourth roll of doubles ever. It is also my most popular non-Aerochrome shot.

Is there any advice you can give to new analogue shooters?

Just take pictures. Get ideas and inspiration from the amazing members of this Community and just practice. Some of my best shots were taken early on when I was just trying things out.

Do you think you’re qualified as a LomoGuru? Got something to share in our Community? Then drop me a line at mayee.gonzales@lomography.com qne become the next LomoGuru!

    Guru? Hell yeah! Plus there's a clue in his name, ya know ;-) As for 'lazy', I dunno, but he sure as hell is no slouch with a Lomo machine in his hands...! Big congrats, Daniel - and keep up the inspiring work for the rest of us, your humble servants...! ;-)
