How Did My Lomo Affair Start?

Back in 2008, I flirted with a multi-lens camera, and it happened. I left that digital path and started to discover that softness and kindness that film offers you. I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about, so keep reading!

My first beloved lomo snap ever was this one: black and white SuperSampler sequence:

This was taken with a friend’s camera. We were walking around and he had just got it. We were testing it, and even though I had taken these before, it wasn’t until that b&w shot I realized that lomography and I were probably meant to be.

As I fell in love with lomography, I started to read everything I could about it, I came on this website thanks to aguigabriela who was at that time living in Manchester and told me to join and be a part of the community. There were some awesome contests with sequences pictures, called Oktokino. Yes, I fell in love with another multi-lens camera: the ActionSampler. My friend Gabriela bought one in her trip to London and she sent that beautiful ActionSampler Chrome to me.

I didn’t have a full 35mm camera, multilens-less until my friend yiyo said, “I have a Holga that I won’t use…” I was directly attracted by that sort of “offer.” A few days later I met him and bought that lovely Holga 135BC that happens to be still with me. Here you have some pictures from that first roll; pretty crappy photos, of course (I still think I make too many crappy pictures).

As my piggies counter indicates, October 18th was the first time I ever got some of those. From that moment, Lomography’s server changed and improved and this thing just got better since. It’s been only three years of lomographic life for me but so far I’ve taken my Holga along with me to every single place I go. I got to know some amazing people, I’ve made friends and my (and some other Venezuelan lomographers) target is to get everyone interested in film photography here in our country. Hard work is yet to come!

Happy 20th Anniversary! Lomo On!
