CopyCat Nat #9: warning and minilidia

Since I missed last month's article, I painted two this month! See how I've combined two lomographs into one in this painting after the jump.

I’ve tried something new for this painting; a combination of two photos to create one painting of my interpretation. The main portion of this was a photo of the lovely warning. However, instead of her, we see a skeleton’s skull, neck, and arm from minilidia ’s photo.

Strange? Yes, pretty strange. But I’ve been learning about human physiology at school, so I decided, why not? We’ve been studying bones on the skeleton of a real human, or, what used to be a real human. In any case, I switched out @warning’s body for a mystery person’s skeleton.

To be honest, it was quite difficult for me to get parts of this painting right with the materials I was using. But I kept going despite the disappointment at the results I was getting after redoing many parts of it.

I began with the hair, top to bottom. I’ve always loved the ombre hairstyle with bangs, especially on @warning (painting this made me miss my old hair…). I used a thicker brush so as to cover more space, and finished the hair. X-pro colors are usually quite hard to match exactly with paint but I did what I could and painted the shirt in. Cross hatched and scribbled the grass/hay in the back, (got a little bit lazy) and filled in all the white space.

Last of all was the skeleton. I painted the humerus and vertebra in the neck first (human physiology vocabulary, woohoo!) followed by the sternum and tip of the clavicle peeking out of the shirt. The skull came last (and it took multiple revisions before I was finished). The dark eye sockets just below the bangs followed by the lower half of the skull. Some quick shading, and voila!

Cool painting. Even though you didn't use @warning's face, you can still tell that the source photo was of her.

nice interpretation - you can still see Tania in there, the effect is very cool and a bit creepy....
