Today in History: The Lomography Manifesto Published on 'Wiener Zeitung' (1992)

On this day, 20 years ago, the first ever newspaper article on Lomography, which contained the 'Lomography Manifesto,' was published on Viennese publication 'Wiener Zeitung.' Learn more about this milestone on today's installment of Today in History.

This article was then the first ever newspaper article about Lomography.

On November 5, 1992, the world had first heard about Lomography, its origins, inspirations, and aspirations, when the Lomography Manifesto was published in the Viennese newspaper ‘Wiener Zeitung.’

There could have been no perfect time for this feature, as the ‘Lomographic Society’ was almost ready to be officially founded and was set to have its first Lomography exhibition. It must have caught the interest of the Viennese newspaper, its writers and editors most likely being the first ones to wonder and ask, What the hell is Lomography?

So, one of the Lomographers who came up with the ‘Lomography Manifesto’ simply faxed it to the newspaper, where it was printed verbatim. And the rest, as they say, is history.

You must be curious, so go ahead and read the Lomography Manifesto in full!
