Kristen Cumings Spills the (Jelly) Beans for Art

With Halloween just around the corner, we're getting ready to spook and spoil ourselves with tricks and treats. And just like kids on a candy-laden holiday, we were delighted by these sweet masterpieces made by Kristen Cumings using thousands of jelly beans! Mmm we can feel the cavities already.

What would you do if Jelly Belly came knocking on your door? Make art is what American multimedia artist Kristen Cumings did when the candy company came to her for commissions to be presented at the “Jelly Belly Masterpieces of Confectionary Art” exhibit.

Based on some of the most recognizable works of art (Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, Vincent Van Gogh’s The Starry Night, and even a Harry Potter portrait!), each 4 × 6 mural took over 50 hours to make. Oh, don’t forget about the most important material: 9,000 to 12,000 jelly beans from Jelly Belly’s 50 flavors!

You might also like “Stop Motion, Jelly Beans, and Music, the Perfect Combination”, a music clip starring singer Kina Grannis and even more of these tiny treats!
