Childhood Analogue Photos

Here are some of my childhood photos. Please don't laugh...I'm pretty sure your collection is just as horribly adorable.

Some of us were born in a time when there was no option between digital or analogue photographs; there was just analogue. That, perhaps, is the reason why film has been endearing to us; snippets of our childhood were captured by such medium. With that, here is a short trip down memory lane as I revisit some old photos of me.

So here I am, a little over one year old perhaps, nursing my bottle of milk while rocking the old rocking chair. We actually still have this chair in our house in Lipa, Batangas. Hmmm…what’s with the little finger?

As far as I can remember, I have always had a rather thin body frame. It is quite surprising that I was actually a bit chubby when I was young. There is another version of this photo with my hands clasped and beaming brightly, which is actually my favorite childhood photo. Sadly, it got lost before the technology of scanning photos came along. It probably got misplaced when I did some school project when I was in high school.

No, this is not cosplay. My parents are devout Catholics and it was customary for parents to offer devotion to saints, for their children. My mother’s birthday coincides with the feast day of St. Anthony; hence I was dressed like a little St. Anthony when we attended Sunday mass.

That’s my mother carrying me in the churchyard. She got me a red balloon; I guess I behaved well that day. Either that or I threw tantrums.

I think I was in grade four the time this photo was taken. My aunt is a public school teacher and she made sure I joined every school activity there is, including the Boy Scouts.

Oh yes! I was a king for a day. I was in grade five; I won in a fundraising contest and was hailed as Mr. G.B. Lontok Memorial School.

High waist, loose pants neatly folded at the bottom: it was early in the 90’s, and still hungover from the intoxication of the 80’s. The way my thumb rests in my pocket is not a coincidence. Any Filipino boy who grew up in the 80’s sure had Fernando Poe, Jr.. as one of his idols.

I should be embarrassed right now; surprisingly, I am all smiles!
